New rate of VAT
The standard rate of VAT will increase from its current rate of 17.5% to 20%, with effect from 4 January 2011. The new 20% rate will apply to supplies made on or after 4 January 2011, and to acquisitions or importations taking place on or after that date. This measure does not affect supplies subject to other rates of VAT, such as the zero-rate or reduced rate.

The Bribery Bill - what does my business need to do?
The government has published a draft Bribery Bill to simplify and update the law on bribery so that it can be more effectively administered and enforced. The estimated date for the Bill to become law is Spring 2010, however this depends on the timing of the general election.
